View attachment 1084753looks like I may have a runner? I was told she was not at the feed store. I am kind of disappointed as I have read they are more shy. We have a Welsh Harlequin and wanted a duck more like her.

Cute duckling. Hard to tell breed at this age. Our local TSC had some ducklings this spring, all Cayuga, which this one may well be by the coloring.

Does anyone have experience buying runner ducks from Sand Hill Preservation Center or Johnson's Waterfowl? I noticed that Sand Hill Preservation Center sells Khaki Runner Ducks, which I have never heard of before. I assume they are similar in pattern to a Khaki Campbell duck. If anyone has any information they could share about this coloring or photographs it would be greatly appreciated. I am also considering the Fawn and White Runner Ducks from here too.

At Johnson's Waterfowl I am leaning towards Penciled Runner Ducks and White Runner Ducks and possibly Emery Penciled Runner Ducks. Does anyone have any information about the quality of these ducks or photographs?

Any recommendations for where I can buy quality runner ducks would be helpful. I am worried that if I buy from a hatchery they may not have the correct form and posture. However, I may be wrong to believe that. All advice is welcomed.

I got some ducklings and geese from Johnson's this spring, they are top quality.
Their original Runner stock was from Holderead. The Emery Penciled Runners are lovely, not that the regular Penciled are bad. It all depends on what you intend to do with your stock. I purchased Emery, Penciled, and Blue runners from Johnson's, very happy with all. If you have the room, their African geese are top notch.

I got some fawn runners last year, and our female actually went broody. From what I've seen last year and with the new ducklings, the females' bills turn dark around the top, just as their voices are starting to change (4-5 weeks). From your pic, I would guess your fawns are drakes. Has anyone else noticed this?

You are right. All my fawns are drakes. All 4 are finally quacking and it's low.

Looks like I'm going to have to try and trade 3 of the drakes for some hens. If I didn't have any girls it wouldn't be an issue, but 2 hens to 4 drakes isn't good.

One of my blue Runners is getting white specks in various places she was 1 yr old this past April. I understand it is very natural. My other Blue hasn't started yet. Or my blacks either. My blue and blk Runners lay blue eggs. Also my silver lays a blue egg.

Here's a pic of my Penciled Runners (and a couple of others). The Emery Penciled duck is in the pool, behind her and to the left is the Penciled duck, to her left and front is the Penciled drake. 3 Cumberland blues and a Buff African goose are in the background. And yes, a couple of my older Blue girls have developed a few white feathers.

My blue runner girl is only about 10 to 12 weeks old. I got her when she was a few weeks old and the girl that was raising her for a FFA projects wasn't sure what her age was. She is now getting random blue/green color feathers among her black ones.

She also has, what I like to call ink spots on her feet. They are either black or the blue coloring. I cannot wait to see what she looks like full grown.
