Runner Duck Hatch-a-Long! 2021

I candled a few eggs last night (at end of day 4) and saw a few veins and heartbeats!! I’ll check everyone on Sunday, I’m so happy!

I looked at a few this morning, I'm on day 4, but didn't see too much! Maybe I'll try later when the room gets a bit darker. I'm trying REALLY hard not to be an obsessive candler (is candler a thing??) but it's so awesome to see them in there!

it’s so hard haha. I love seeing them wiggling around and I worry so much every day about them that it’s settling just to check.
I’m going to leave mine now (no promises) till Sunday when I’m on day 7

Yeah, it's hard not to candle, so I candle mine every day (I take a flashlight and shine it through the incubator, and I can see everything).

Ok I lied. well sort of lol.
my daughter (she’s 6) wanted to see the ducklings so we candled.
I have 10 eggs in there, it’s end of day 5. I only see veins and an embryo in 3 of the eggs. 2 other eggs had what looks like a blood line and the other 5 are completely blank.
the blank ones are safe to say not fertilized right?

I did it. Looks like I have 9/12 for sure. It’s early, so maybe more. I really don’t need 12 ducks anyway (just like I didn’t need 22 chickens yet there are 14 in my basement and 8 on the way!). I’m excited, so much to learn about ducks in the next few weeks.

Day 6 here and all 12 of my eggs are growing well. There is a noticeable size difference between the Pekin embryos and the Blue Runners, it’ll be interesting to see how they progress. They were all from different ducks too and they have a mixed batch of drakes. I can’t wait to see what we end up with.

hurray! glad all are growing well!
It’s day 7 here for me so I’ll be checking eggs tonight to see if there are any changes from my previous post.

also, from your previous post, I also don’t neeeed anymore ducks lol but these are white runners (hopefully) and I don’t have any of those....so of course I bought eggs lol

I candled the eggs again tonight and I think I have 5 developing. I see veins and an embryo in a few. If I see veins but no embryo is that okay at this stage (day 7)?

Three of the eggs have zero going on. Just clear inside with the yolk. and then the other two I'm not sure so I'm leaving them and will check again on day 10.
