I have a 4 year old speckled sussex hen that had a doughy crop and i treated that and things seem to have gone hill. She does not seem to be recovering so I'm looking for help.
I treated the doughy crop with the following spice mix formula and that resolved the dough ball.
1/2tsp ginger
1/2tsp cinnamon
1/2tsp cayenne pepper
1/2tsp baking soda
1 tsp lemon juice
2tbs water

that all mixed together and dosed the entire batch 3 times a day for 2 days.
she has a liquidy crop and the spice mix is not resolving the issue.
she's strong as a horse and VERY strong. i have watched her on the cameras
going out into the run and drink water but i have not seen her eat. Nor have i offered her anything to eat. i know she's not plugged up because she has pooped on me 3 times in the last couple of days
while administering the spice mix to her. she prefers to stay in a nesting box all day and all night.
i have not used any vaginal cream but i did worm her with safeguard just in case.
Im not sure how to treat whats going on .
i have acidified copper sulphate but have not dosed her with that. I'm wondering if that may fix the problem. BUT i don't know what the problem really is or what its called.
the crop gets smaller after i fill it up with the spice mix over time but it never empties.
i massage the spice mix in every time i dose her. i have discontinued the spice mix as it appears that its not going to resolve this issue. Her crop is liquidy and theres no dough ball anymore.
I guess I'm just not sure whats going on. She's strong but she won't last if i don't figure this out.
this has been going on for about a week now. I'm getting concerned.

any ideas or suggestions are appreciated.

i just told my wife that i was going to make her some scrambled eggs and see if she eats them. i have monostat that i can use. i usually does 1ml of monostat a couple times a day. i hoping someone chimes in that has experienced this issue in the past and has suggestions as to how to address it.

Here is what they sent me...the author of the article is the one that responded to me. Hope this helps.

thank you for that link. i actually gave her 1ml of monistat about 15mins ago and now I'm out of that. she does not have a smelly crop like most do that have sour crop. its certainly not so bad that its leaking out of her beak, so I'm not going to puke her. i have had to do that many times in the past and i don't like doing it. I'm going to walgreens and get her a tube of Clotrimazole 2%. it costs $15 a tube but i know from past experience that it works way better than the cheap walmart generic monistat.

It helped me. Mine started puking when I picked her up this AM. Scared me to death. I could tell she was off but didn’t know why. Her puke was brownish yellow but I did not notice a smell. I did turn her upside down when she was puking hoping she wouldn’t aspirate on it. She puked again this afternoon before I gave her her the meds. She seems to be doing well. I was told to keep her with her sisters since it was a crop issue. My husband wanted me to take her to the vet but there are so many chicken experts on here, I feel good with her treatment. I would be curious to know how your chicken is doing so keep me updated. All of mine are 3 1/2 and we get only one egg a day but I love them anyway.

we have 25 and they are all pets. we don't care if any of them lay eggs. when its running out of their beak like that, its almost certain that its sour crop. when you puke them, just make sure that you keep a finger on the back of their head as you puke them so they can't raise their head while they are puking. that way you have the best chance of them not aspirating any of the liquid. if you are using your right to push on the crop and she's cradled in your left arm, your thumb can rest on the back of her head to keep her from snapping her head up. also try not to puke her for more than 5 seconds at a time. if you have to do it more than once, thats better than too long of a puke length. i also take that thumb and tip their head quickly down a bit a few times to make sure theres no liquid left in their beak. i have done it many times and thankfully never hurt one of our girls yet. a seasoned chicken raiser taught me how. but its always a last resort for me because of the danger. I'm off to get the 2% clotrimazole so i can start dosing her with it in the morning. i will let you know how it goes.

Did you push on her crop gently while holding her body and head down at about a 45 degree angle and try and get her crop emptied of all that rancid liquid ?
