He shrugged. "Why don't you ask her?" He mewed teasingly. "We can bring prey from here to there. Starvation won't be an issue."
“I would ask,” she growled, “but the problem of her being unconscious and in the Dark Forest remains. And I’m not going in there, before you say anything.”

“Your grief has clouded your judgement,” Floodlight murmured suddenly. “Deep down, you must know this isn’t right. Stop making excuses to your own mind and listen to your heart.”

His tail twitched as Floodlight spoke. You have no idea of the pain I'm in. You have no right to speak here. You don't know that she was carrying our kits. You don't know that I'm the one that killed her. I told her to go hunting because she was restless. If I hadn't, she wouldn't have died. My kits wouldn't have died

“What is it you hide from us?” Floodlight asked, still speaking in that quiet, trance-like tone.
 
He felt like the walls were pressing in on him. Stop talking. Don't say her name. I wish the pain would go away, but it won't. It never will. I killed my kits. What kind of father am I?
“Is there something we don’t know?” Lilyflight asked gently, hesitating. She had to get him to say something.
