She adjusted her position so she was laying more comfortably among the soft moss and bracken in her nest. “Until then, I should probably rest for tonight.” She lay her head down and let the chill of late leaf-fall rustle her fur and pulled her tail more closely around her kits so they wouldn’t chill.

He curled around her and their kits with a purr.

Beetlepaw was in front of her when she opened her eyes again. The first thing he said was "You're in the Dark Forest, don't freak out. I brought you here, not Blackblood. He has no idea you're here. Bramblestar told me about the plan."

“But I thought you weren’t supposed to be here!” She scrambled to her paws, looking around hastily to make sure they were alone. “Isn’t that the whole point of me being here?”
 
Nightpaw had gathered moss and held a clump in her mouth. She crept into the elder's den. "Ifhmv brah oss," she mewed triumphantly, her voice so muffled it was inaudible. She dropped the moss and coughed at the dirt in her throat.

"He doesn't know I'm here yet either. I'm going to leave after giving you directions." He mewed calmly. "Lilyflight is just beyond that little stream right there. Every day you need to bring her food and make sure she eats it and drinks some water. If she is too weak to groom herself, you'll have to do it. Bring fresh nesting materials to her once per week. Blackblood himself will most likely be training you."
