Emberfeather sighed and curled around the kits. "I'll watch you. From now on."
Lilyflight felt warmth well up to mix with the grief churning her other emotions. She stood up to let the three be together. Emberfeather would be a great mother to them.
Emberfeather sobbed quietly and let the kits soft tongues comfort her. "I will protect you."
"Did she fulfill her task?"
She shook her head "I could've tried harder..."
Lilyflight sighed, realizing she felt numb. "I don't know. I don't even know what her task was. But trust me when I say that it will get done, I know it."
"No one could have done better. Watch out for the sickness in others, Feathersky. I think that you should watch Emberfeather, she has a cough and grief always makes her avoid eating."
She nodded. "You don't seem well. You should rest a bit before the vigil." Sunstrike said worriedly
"Thanks for telling me." She said gratefully. "Here." She pressed some catmint into his paw "Give this to her and tell her to eat it."
"I will. Wake me up at sunset please." With one last lick to her ear, Lilyflight stood up and walked to nursery, having soon fallen asleep curled around her kits.
They both snuggled closer to her while she slept.
