I have one rooster who is 3 months old with these symptoms. A month and a half ago I had another older bird die at about 3.5 months of age with similar symptoms. We recently butchered another rooster that was 5 months old, and having never butchered an australorp chicken before, didn't know what to expect as far as amount of meat. But it seemed to me to be lacking. Also the other chickens that I can pick up seem have their keel sticking out. Now I know in wild birds this is a sign of worms or malnurishment. But in chickens I am not sure at what age they really fill out.

I separated the sick one from the flock and gave him some feed, he ate it very hungrily. Do these birds have worms and if so how do I get rid of them? Do I need to clean out the coop and to what extent? What about the run?

Thanks!

What kind of feed are they on? At 3 months they should be on 18-20% protein chick feed or flock raiser, not layer feed. Have you raised these from chicks or are they recent additions? Coccidiosis/cocci is pretty common this time of year, so you might think about treating with corid. Cockerels are pretty lean when they are processed.

Hi its sounds like coccidosis, and bad case of it. I treated my flock with a cocci treatment and they recovered very fast. Also I've found garlic in their feed and apple cider vinegar in their water helps to prevent further outbreaks.

I use acv in their water and was told to only put garlic clove in their water if they are sick, which I've stared doing again. Where do I find cocci treatment?

Also They are on grower not layer. I don't see any bloody stool, its just runny yellow and his vent feathers are all dirty. These are all chicks I got this spring since we recently moved across country

In Canada i purchase my medications from a vet. If you live in the U.S,i believe you can purchase Corid from feed/livestock stores.
