Runs & Sand...A WARNING!!!

When I saw WARNING in the title, I thought 'Oh no, the sand is killing the chickens!' Glad to hear they weren't the casualties

I've heard an Epsom salt bath is supposed to help with muscle soreness. Pour yourself another tub!

I'm thinking your DH should be giving a thorough massage, not just words of encouragement. Thirty minutes of kneading on those muscles, and you should feel much better.

Wow, that was a huge project!!! I put sand in today but only needed a couple of inches in the 4x8 section, a little less than 400 lbs. The other part is 4x4 packed with dirt to the same level and has about 5 inches of fall leaves on top. The chickens scratch around in the leaves for treats, break up the leaves and it entertains them plenty. The run is covered, hopefully we will be able to keep the run dry. It was a pretty level spot to begin with....
Now I will soak in the tub but my little bit of hauling and shoveling sand does not compare to yours!!!

Here on the Trinity River, the US Fish and Wildlife agency has to dredge portions of the river to remove sediment. They pile up up high enough for hundreds of semi tractor trailer size loads. They give it away "free" for road base, tracks at schools, etc. The sediment is decomposed granite. Slightly courser than "sand" but far smaller particles than pea gravels. I love the stuff, it drains like a champ, you can rake through it and pick up the poo, the pine shavings and the rice hulls and whatever other detritus that is in the hen house and run. Free, Free, Free, and it works better than anything I have ever found.
