Runs & Sand...A WARNING!!!

I don't use the play sand because like it says in my link, I got the information from an OLD poultry farming book... don't think they had play sand then, and I was following Weeks advice after he tried "everything" else.

From what I've read from with those with playsand,
It compacts very easily
It soft and can easily harbor small pests & mites
It isn't providing any grit for the chickens
It costs more than construction type sand

and strictly in my head I think that sharp/course sand provides better dust bathing material, but I have no real proof of that... just conceptually I believe that to be true.


I think that the "Precautions" I added to the sand page are applicable whether you have play sand or construction sand.
