Russian Orloffs

Yes, I just had my first batch of chicks hatch today. It looks like I've ended up with 9. Not as many as I was hoping for, but a decent number! I'll leave the rest of the eggs in the bator for a few more days to see if there are any late bloomers...they technically weren't due until tomorrow so there's hope!

that looks like good orloff chicks

Why do you say that?

There is this record of a breeder who had winning Orloffs that I have been reading about in some old literature and I keep hoping his birds will turn up. He was in the state where Ideal is so I thought proximity might mean his birds were theirs... or vice versa. Its a historical/genetic mystery and I am hooked.

I just lost most of my Orloffs today. Due to family issues I had not kept up with my usual perimeter walking to check the fencing and because of that something managed to get in. I am heart broken. I have already fixed the issue and moved the chickens close to my house. Does anyone have any roosters or cockerels and/or eggs, hens, chicks, for sale?

I don't have any Orloffs (yet) but just wanted to say how sorry I am for the loss of your birds.

I would like to find a home for my rooster from Ideal, I'd hate to put him in the freezer after raising him for over a year. But I have too many roosters and I know it's unlikely he'll find a home. But if anyone in the NJ area wants a roo - he's a tall boy, still has a lot of filling out to do, and he's very quiet (rarely crows) and gentle! :) And fertile too! LOL
Every time I open this thread to see who has posted, I think "man, that is one good looking RO rooster!" I love his color and his stance.
