Russian Orloffs

FlowerPower4 did you join the Society? If so check out the breeder's list to see who may have some available for that time frame. You can also check out the Orloff Tracker

Just want all the members on this thread to be cautious of people selling chickens/chicks/eggs as being pure Orloff. Make sure that you get pics of the parent stock as there are a few folks out there selling mixed/crossed chickens/chicks/eggs as Orloff. Learn all you can about the breed, now what you're working with. If you have any doubts please ask those that have experience with Orloff, we are more than happy to help. There is currently a member on this site selling such eggs, I do not know if they have no clue what a pure Orloff looks like or just trying to make a quick buck but be very cautious. Due to the the recent publications that have mentioned Orloff in Chickens Magazine there will be some new folks truly interested in the breed but by the same token there will be a few just looking to make a quick buck. This person has already been told they are not pure Orloff.

If you are truly interested in the breed and support it I advise you to join the Russian Orloff Society of USA and Canada facebook group page if you have not done so yet.

FridayYet I can understand some people being reluctant to joining fb, I know I was but it is a great tool if used correctly. Look forward to seeing you on the fb group page. We are working on a website but due to limited time it will be a while before we have it up and running. Once we do I will post the link here for any one interested in becoming a member.

I live in Montana, they d be dead on the ride there it's so cold now

Heat up a potato or two and wrap them in foil. Then put those inside thermal mugs. They'll stay really warm through the ride to your birds and then back. Just wrap them in paper towels or something so the chicks aren't burned. I picked up chicks, here in Maine, last winter, our hardest and the chicks were panting. You an also use those gel packs meant to be heated or cooled. Put the chicks in a cooler as well or box but leave it open-- you can even use an incubator that is empty because its foam and insulated.

Well that's alright I guess... though this is easier for me to navigate. Still ... want to share in case someone new comes along. The hackle on my hens are pretty good and it gives folks a decent example of what to look for.... minus beards. I long for long beards lol

I agree, in some ways it's easier over here, just because things are linear so you can't really miss things. Hoping this thread doesn't die as we might miss interested folks. Maybe I should cross post... I posted some of my possible breeders there, haven't gotten any feedback.
