Cool, I'd love to get some.
Edited to say;

Well, maybe not, my mom wants to go in together on a hatchery order so I guess I'll wait til April and get some from Ideal along with some marans and her stuff.

From my pictures back on page 48, so there could be an outside chance that he's a pure breed? I'd love to start doing my part in this breeds survival but not really this year. I'm not set-up to do anything like that yet and plus I want to do more research on them. I want to know what's desirable, the right comb, leg color, etc.

Well, now that I've actually located a couple of breeders that have birds very close to what the standard would be that are able to ship chicks, I don't think I would. I might consider looking outside the breed if I were entirely limited to the smallish and rather less than upright hatchery stock I have experience with.

Is there just the spangled variety offered here in the US? Can other varieties still be found? According the old APA standard, it does say "rose" comb but I've been searching for pictures of some orloff and none have had a rose comb. So, if you were to get this breed to standard then how can you do it? I know incorporating another breed in but I don't really understand all the genetics/breeding. How is it still gonna be an orloff if you are breeding it with something else? Doesn't that make it's offspring and future offspring mutts?

The ones today have virtually no comb or a walnut comb. Rather than trying to recreate a breed that's now extinct, I'm focusing on what I have and what others seem to have as well....if the APA is going to allow Russian Orloffs back into the breed standard, they will start from what they have not what they had decades ago that's now gone.

They come in mahogany, cuckoo, white (very rare in the U.S.) and in other countries, black.
