we only raise bantam orloff's but here are some chick pics, you can see their legs in there. I have lots of other pics of chicks but these are prob the best for legs. I'm sure Shelly will post some good pics for you too.

At least with mine, they stay pretty much the color from hatch, a bright yellow.

hope that helps!

thanks, for showing me a good example. It looks like half are a brightish yellow and half have almost a greyish brown... I'll try and get photos of it. I do have a rooster with BRIGHT yellow legs. If I keep the brown leg hens and breed them to him would it create another off color or back to the yellow?

thanks for the pictures, mine definitely do not look like that...

Anyone that lives near northeast Mississippi or going to be traveling through this area soon need large fowl spangled Orloff hatching eggs? I'm not ready to start shipping, but I am currently switching my roos in the breeding pens and will have lots of eggs for the next month.
I have two strains and I have culled very heavily, so pretty fair stock already, but I am going to breed both strains pure for a month or so and then switch roosters in the pens and cross the two strains and grow out all the chicks to see which way works best to improve our line.
They will be all pure spangled Orloff eggs, but will be a mixture of the two strains as until now they have all been running together. I will have a few more eggs availible for a month later in the year when I switch them again.
I've already got around 100 eggs in the incubator, so just don't really need these right now. We have 9 hens, and are getting 6 - 8 eggs per day right now with excellent fertility.

My Orloffs did okay at the show yesterday...best of breed & reserve best of breed. Of course, they were the only two there.

I took some photos, too....

The judge had to pull out his ABA manual to check them out!

I need to work on their beards...this line seems to lack good beards. I did manage to sell my little cull (beardless) cockerel for $5 right away at the show so that was nice.

Another idea of improvement is their attitude. Man this little roos are nasty! The nastiest was the beardless one, followed by the one who won RBB. I'm hoping with more handling, I can stand to have them around and maybe the pullets I bought for them will help bring some nice, sweet attitudes into this line?

I don't have any issues with my LF Orloffs--other than to other birds. All the girls are sweet and even the roo is approachable but not pushy.

I only raise the large fowl, but I've been looking at lots of bantams because there currently isn't a standard for standards. In my opinion Rare Feathers Farm has about the best bantam Orloffs I've seen.... would be well worth waiting for. Just my two cents..
