Russian Orloffs

I just got some orloffs a little over a week ago, they are chipmunk colored.

What a cutie! But, are you sure it is a Orloff? I am new to Orloffs, but none of my chicks are that color. They are yellow with a brown stripe on their head and back.

I just looked around online, and it seems like there is a lot of color varition (depending on the strain) with the chicks. Most photos were yellow, but there were some pictures of stripy chicks like yours
Does anyone know if there is any difference in the coloration of the birds as adults?

They are such cuties! I love this breed... my rooster is one of my most gentle birds. Where did you order from? I will try to upload the photos that I think are my Orloff chicks to get some suggestions.

Thanks - I can't wait to see them grow up!! There is some color variation but most chicks look like the one pictured.
One is lighter and a few are in between...here is the lighter guy. He has more yellow but still has the chipmunk stripe.



I ordered from Ideal. I think I lucked out, I only had to wait 2 or 3 weeks, but they are now sold out for a year!!
I ordered 12 pullets and 3 cockerels. Two of the chicks didn't make it, but I don't know which sex they were. The lighter one pictured is feathering in soo much slower than the rest, I don't know if Orloffs can be feather sexed or not but it makes me worry that the 2 chicks I lost were cockerels. We'll see...I wish I'd thought to ask them to band the boys, but I didn't realize they didn't do it automatically. Now I will just be wondering for at least a few months...

Hello Everyone! I have wanted Orloffs for the longest time, but cannot find any anywhere near me! Does anyone know of someone with them in Maine? I am sending in a order for some from Sandhill anyway, because I dont want to wait yet another year! It would be great to have some from a couple different bloodlines though so if anyone has any and happens to be in Maine, or passing through let me know!
