I've been holding off on birds until my run is finished but. Here we are. What do I do with the egg, what do I do when it starts to hatch, how do I keep it alive for all of 2 seconds after. Expediency appreciated 😱🫠

Candle it. It's peeped inside but sounds like it hadn't zipped. You can put a tiny air hole in the wider end of the egg, in the air sac. It's likely got a dry membrane. If you have an incubator, put it in and max the humidity as high as you can go.

If not, if you have a heating pad, heating bottle, similar (or even a warm part of the house, say by a window with direct sun and it's hot where you are, you can put it in a nest of towels, with some wet sponges nearby. Or set up heating pad and nest and put in bathroom and run the shower for steam.

If you have a little bottle mister, misting it can help. When it zips it may have bits of membrane stuck to it so you would want to spray where you can, avoiding the beak. You can take a qtip and dip in save-a chick and have it drink but I wouldn't do that unless you think it's been hatching for days with no progress.

@SnackMeat 😭😭😭 There are 3 more pipped and 4 more pecking inside. Well I'm off to the "raising newborn chicks" threads 😂

I can't even imagine how this would happen. Obviously these eggs were not just sitting on their counter. Did they just pull some eggs from under a broody hen?!?

Maybe they gave you the eggs to eat...as chickens 16 weeks later!
😂 She's an old lady and did say she was behind on collection but I think she lost 2 weeks or smthn. I'd planned to candle them anyway, but the peeping sealed it. The entire batch included 8 fully developed chicks, 16 rotten timebombs and 15 fresh delicious not-fetal eggs. Some kinda haul, tell u what
