s this truly creepy??

The reason I say the idea is good is I live where meth houses are common. I would like to see more.of.them taken down.

OK I am in from the cold wet rain... I have been thinking about this all morning. Of course we would like less crime and criminals to be caught quicker and served due justice.... No one is going to argue that....HOWEVER.... The concept of "snapscouts" is deeply disturbing to me. Children spying on each other?

Might I as those of you think such behavior is a good idea a simple question or two..
1. To what extent are you willing to give up your constitutional liberties in order to be "safer"???
2. What happens when you have no liberties left, and the government you gave them too turns against you?

To me this is a serious issue. The United States of America was founded on the principals, of those escaping religious and personal persecution. This is why we have these safe guards in place!
Their are 100's of thousands of pages of law written to protect the American citizens rights and privacy in America. (This freedom is what makes us distinctly American! I personally feel we eagerly gave up way to many rights, after 911.. The government said "give up these liberties and we will make you safer"... Sure for know..

Snapscouts sounds like something a Taliban run country would encourage! Indeed these were the kinds of things rewarded in Natzi Germany.....

It is simply un American and goes against our Constitutional rights... THIS is MY opinion...

Arlington Code Rangers....

A program where (VOLUNTEER) citizens are taught the nuances of Code Enforcement and are trained how to spot the tiniest infraction so that they can keep an eye on all their neighbors.

Hey and bonus points for putting up a map of where the Rangers live... bet that'll help neighbor relations.

Wonder when they'll pass out the armbands....

I am in total agreement with you.

Sounds a lot like "McCarthyism" from back in the '50's & 60's-all your friends, family, and neighbors were commies and you needed to report them to the FBI. Any gathering, like a tupperware party, was probably a cover for spreading communism, at least according to those who subscribed to such bs.

Total hoax.. It's gotta be..

I did a little looking around and ran across this here, located on their server:

Georgie O'Well? C'mon.. That obviously reeks of 1984 which is why they caption the kid's name as "Georgie" -- sans the "O'Well" -- on the homepage, let leave this one image in a photo directory and "forget" to disallow directory listings of the site. They wanted people to find it.

Also, read the FAQ answer to whether or not a parent should be concerned with their kid taking pictures of them -- "Only if you have something to hide!"

What concerns me is that it may actually be a functional Droid app.. I don't know that, because I've yet to find any reference to anyone installing it to a Droid device. If I had one, I TOTALLY WOULD...but I don't. What's particularly worrisome is that even if this is NOT a functional app, there's nothing stopping them or anyone else from making an app to do exactly what they're suggesting here..

I think that's the whole point of the site, actually.

You're probably right cm, perhaps it was posted to make people think twice about the rights we have signed away......

I am constantly telling teens to knock off the facebook posting and picture sharing. They have no idea how much they are putting out there in SUCH a public way. Privacy settings my great aunt fannie.... that stuff travels! Too many people with wrecked marriages, lost jobs, lost scholarships over facebook. Should some of these things been brought to light? Maybe, but I know for certain that parts of my life are NOT for public consumption and I sure as the dickens don't want my boss and my buddies palling around!

Just this past week there was a kid in Philly who committed suicide because his "friend" was spying on him and was going to post video about him. We're raising a nation full of Lindsey Lohans.

Good work cmjust0!

Yes it is obvious satire now that you point it out. I totally missed the George Orwell...

Regardless it brings up a point Americans should discuss openly and honestly more often... We can often forget why we do things the way we do.. "innocent until proven guilty".. Is NOT their to make things nice for criminals... It is there to protect the citizenry if the "criminals" are the prosecutors... Since 911 we have had some serious changes to what we have considered constitutional freedoms.. The wire tapping law change is scary... No reason other than ethnic background needed to spy and of course Guantanamo Bay are two that come to mind...

Be well fellow BYC'ers..
