We just got our first chick shipment today - we had ordered four chicks. They shipped yesterday and the post office called me at noon to say our birds were in. I rushed down there and only one was alive... got her home fast and into the brooder. SO sad. We have to wait until Thursday to make sure she makes it, then call Meyer again and get replacements. I am so sad our chickies didn't make it. :( :(

That is so sad, at least they are sending replacements. I have 15 coming from Cackle and i am nervously waiting. Supposed to ship tomorrow. I hope your little chick lives and that the replacements are alive and healthy.

I am so anxious about it. I hope they can send a replacement shipment right away (on Monday) so there isn't a huge age difference between our surviving Buff Orpington and the replacements. She is sleeping now -seems OK, but lonely.

When you put them together that young, there shouldn't be too much trouble. We added day-old chicks to two chicks that were a week old. They should adapt just fine.

So sorry about your loss! I hope your replacement shipment comes soon!

I am so sorry for your loss! Seeing a dead baby is utterly heartbreaking! I ordered from Meyer Hatchery about 2 years ago. I ordered 20 and they all were there. It may have been that the box was too big to keep only 4 chicks alive.

It is very sad. I had my six and eight year olds with me (on the trip to the post office) and it was so sad to see the one, lonely chick alive amongst the other three dead ones. We will bury the three dead chicks this afternoon. Our survivor is still alive (sleeping a lot).

I am surprised they didn't send some "packing peanuts" (roosters). Most hatcheries won't ship that few chicks because of the problems like you had - day old chicks need more warmth than what 3 or 4 chicks can make. Some hatcheries will tell you that if you order under a certain amount, then you will get roosters as fillers or you have to purchase insurance if you don't want the added roosters.

I thought your title meant that you had 3/4 of your box dead, and I guess you did, but I was thinking it more of 75% rather than 3 out of 4.
