Chickenlover1991 I am a person who frequents all areas of the forum including the meaties section. I don't raise Cornish X birds because I did not like the fact that a lot tend to die before you even get to processing date.
To give a bit of perspective for those on the Meaties forum. I raise and love all my chickens from the time they hatch. I hatch out my own eggs and take care of all my girls and boys respectively. They all have my love, get treats and are given the best of everything. The problem is that I can't keep 100's of chickens since I only have 2 acres of land. I have 34 chickens right now. Some are for eggs and some are boys. Up here I have two options when I breed eggs. I have to either put them on Craigslist and try to sell them to someone who might not treat them with respect and will probably still process them. Or I can bite the bullet and process them myself. I choose to do the latter because I feel it's my responsibility to make sure that every aspect of my chickens lives is the best it can be from life until death. I can't do that if others are involved unfortunately and a lot of people out there view chickens as just chickens not as living beings. After seeing videos on how animals are treated in commercial processing places I also decided that I would no longer buy any of my meat from the local grocery stores. I grow and raise my own pigs, goats, sheep, chickens and soon will have turkeys and ducks as well. I also buy beef from a local grower rather than from the store. It's my responsibility to make a change if I see something I don't like in the world.
I can understand why the pictures on the meaties forum might be shocking and I apologize for that. Make sure if you go on the forum that you watch the titles. Most people will put graphic pictures in the title line if there is something that might be upsetting to see. While the pictures are graphic they are also extremely educational as well and help others just starting out so they can be as respectful as possible when they must process their chickens. I would like to applaud you for approaching an issue that is tough in such a mature manner though kudos to you.
