Sad day at work rant..

Thank you all for your words of support. I have made a note of what happened and If it continues today I will have an infomal word with my supervisor. Hopefully these men are adult enough to leave what happened yesterday alone.

I have come to work today for the sole purpose of receiveing /dispatching stock and will ignore any coments made - or discuss anything of a personal nature with any of my workmates. Already my photo have been packed into my car- And I will just go about my business like an emotionless robot. So sad when three years ago when I started working here it was such a lovely environment.

It's harassment report it. Don't give a second chance, don't turn a blind eye. Tell exactly what you think of it, tell them you are requesting they stop because once you ask them to stop and it's repeated it's an offense.

I can't even think of the right wording for what you have to go through. I can only say that I would be sickened over it myself as well. I too am having a problem with someone that I have to work with. She started dressing very seedy and in a joking way I told her that I was calling the fashion police on her. She just laughed. I am embarrassed to be seen with her anymore. We used to be very close. I hope that what ever you decide that it doesn't come back to bite you since there are a few of them and 1 of you. Good luck hon and please stay strong. I guess maybe you can try to block it out. However it is always easier said then done. Sometimes people get thrills from hurting others

What gets my goat is, no pun intended, is that if YOU did something that was offensive to HIM or his beliefs, then you would more than likely be called upon the carpet and reprimanded. I am not trying to start an ethnic thing here, but that is a terrible thing he did, REGARDLESS of his beliefs or not, and I would go to HR and see what they could do. I really hope you find another job quickly . . .I am very weary of this world and the meanness in it.

In 50+ years, how come I have never heard of this food? Is it a regional dish? If so, of what region?

Ditto.
I suspect they had no intentions of bringing such a thing - just trying to get you upset.

No, they are not very nice and need to cool it.

I have a bit of a hard shell so I'd have probably tried to get THEM to eat it.
But if it bothers you so much maybe you could talk to the boss?

Sorry they are being so mean. I'm lucky to really like the people I work with although there is a fair amount of teasing sometimes.

Okay I googled up that balut stuff.

Gross-----gross----gross

But I fail to see what the offense was or is. Right here on BYC many of us talk about eating ducks, geese, chickens, culling, killing, bleeding out, all manner of fowl cuisine. Surely you have encountered "blood talk" right here before, and you remain a member. But because some one refers to a (for lack of a better term) weird gross asian delicacy made from unhatched ducks you take offense. The gross part set aside ---- a dead duck is a dead duck, regardless of if it's still in the egg or was running around in a pen.

Yes! I understand that they were talking about balut for your benifit or discomfort. So what? It ain't made from your duck eggs. It has been my experience that a person who wants to see or hear a problem will usually see and hear a problem. Insensitive I believe it to be, but it is only harassment if you give credence to their words.

I have been to all the sensitivity training, how to detect harassment training, unethical practices training. My opinion is remains the same grow a thicker skin. If this sends you over the edge, Lord only knows what would happen if you were confronted by some one who really wanted to offend you. You know like racial, cultural, sexual, and political talk.

My defense has always been firstly to keep my business to myself, secondly I can be as offensive as the next guy. You want to have an offensive statement party, you better sharpen your tongue, cause it's gonna fly both ways. And I never ever ran to the boss man, boss man has a business to run, it don't matter if your are the offender or the offendee, if you cause the boss man pain, you ain't gonna be their long.

Sometimes knowing that you are right, that you are above the BS has to be enough.

One other bit of advice. The work place is a dynamic setting, it never stays the same, who ever is on top this week will likely be on crapper detail next week. Sit back, bide your time, I garauntee, you will see justice. People who don't do their jobs, cause problems, create difficulties for others, fate (or karma) has a way of dealing with them. You may not see it but I assure you every one gets what they deserve.

Refer to my first responce to this thread----- I am still here (32 years now), making a good living, while others are gone, long gone.

1. Your employer allows you to bring animals to your office?

2. Move on. Simply discussing dishes is not nearly enough to be considered a true case of harassment. At least, that is in my opinion. I would not let it get to you. Sure, people are morons, alot of the time, but sometimes you've got to understand that you can't change them. Try and find another position higher up and make sure to be OVER those people. Especially since they are taking up time on the clock to discuss things that do not pertain to their jobs.
