Hi, Brett here from a town in Upstate NY, just a mile or so from Lake Ontario shoreline! Just this AM loaded my cedar coop and 2 silkie hens (got our first egg yesterday) into the new owners mini van because I received a court ordinance that stated chickens were found on my property and that I had 10 days to remove them.

I live in on a 3/4 acre lot in the suburbs of the city of Rochester NY, chickens are allowed in the city, but not in Greece, NY, a town of the city??????????

So missing those chickens and the plans for the future!

Brett

Brett, sorry that you are having to deal with this.

what a shame. Wonder what neighbor turned you in. Silkies look more like furry little pocket pet dogs, and aren't very noisy. My friend has had silkies as house pets over the past 20 something years, also 2 serama hens.

I am trying to find more people in Greece, Ny that want to stand up at a meeting to change our towns minds about backyard chickens. i live on .28 acres and really want and need chickens to provide my family with healthy eggs and great fertilizer for gardens. I have spoken to Greece zoning many times. There concerns are general. Waste, noise, food storage, chicken containment, and how it will affect the town.I have found a few others that are willing to stand up...
