Your source of relaxation is your chickens(I think everyone here understands that) and her source of relaxation unfortunately is alcohol. I'm sure it is not pleasant for you to have an alcoholic neighbor, what with all the nasty little things that come along with it. If there is no law that prohibits you from keeping him then don't let that roo go.

One rooster is really not all that bad. The nuaisance comes in when you have several and they all crow together. I am inside the city limits and I have two roos that are crowing now and my neighbors are angels and really don't care.

You will be the best home for the little guy so you should let him stay and make sure he is very well taken care of. Tell your neighbor to jump on her broom and take a flying leap.

i would keep him too, i do not hear my roosters unless i go outside with it being summer and the air on you can not hear him. wait and see if anyone complains i do not think they will once they meet him and fall in love like you did i hope all goes good for you....ronnie:jumpy:D

I'm with purr! And everyone else! If you can legally have a rooster, keep him. I understand wanting to stay on cordial terms with neighbors, but as was already pointed out, they sound like the kind of folks who will disapprove of any/everything. Keep that roo!

I feel for you Gazinga. If chickens are a source of relaxation, it wouldn't take much for one nasty neighbor to turn that relaxation into stress and anxiety. A lot of miserable people work VERY hard to make others miserable.

We had two roos that I had to rehome. Once they started crowing (my neighbors really only cared about the 4 am crowing) we brought them in to the house every night after they had gone to roost. Not ideal, but we stuck them in a big rubbermaid tub under the dining table. They could crow like crazy and once we got used to them, we didn't even hear them any more. No probs with the nieghbors.

Good luck to you!

That was the problem with my neighbour and the hag wasn't even next door: she's the next street over and down a couple of houses.

She said that Jerry's crowing made her "migraines" worse...yep...that's why she was driving down Summer Street on the wrong side of the road...

So I rehomed Jerry whom I had raised from a 3 day old chick. And I've kicked myself ever since. Slifer started crowing and she was a cantankerous bag of feathers, but I loved her dearly...I did EVERYTHING I could to keep her and I was able to.

I kept her inside the house, I muzzled her when she was outside. I made a petition and went around the neighbourhood with it. I made a map and all the positions of the people involved. I had a conference with the Health Dept and I managed to keep my bird...My town has a "noise" thing so that's the big deal with roosters...

If YOUR town has no such thing, then by all means keep that boy!!
The only reason that my "lovely" neighbour finally got off our case was when her son threatened to bash Slifer's head in with a stick...we called the cops. And they had a nice little chat...

KEEP HIM KEEP HIM KEEP HIM!! *hear the chanting sound in the background?

* Your neighbor is going to be a jerklet regardless of whether or not you have a roo, so don't let her intimidate you into giving up a creature you love. She'll get over it or not; either way it doesn't really matter, does it?
