Sad morning :-( hen died

Woke up to one of my ladies dead :-( she was perfectly fine yesterday and last night! What could of happened? And now one of my other girls are having tar like poop?? Any thoughts or ideas please give! Thanks :-(

The girl that died was almost a year and was a barred rock...hardy healthy bird!!!

Can you do an henopsy at home, or can you send her in to have a necropsy done by a lab in your state? Here's a very good thread by Kathy that tells you how to do it.

Was the poop bloody when it was fresh? That can mean coccidiosis, and Corid or amprollium for 5 days is the treament. Other things that can cause blood in droppings are certain worms and enteritis. Thank you for you advice! She's been fine ever since that picture so that's good! I never found out what happened to Lucy tho...my other girls are all happy and fine thank goodness

Sorry for your loss, I've gone through that three times. I had one like that, she was sick for a week, and suddenly she was eating and drinking, and then she died the next day. All I can assume is that she was a very healthy hen that needed a rest

Thanks chickenlover! The weird thing is...my hen was fine and happy! I was with her all day cleaning coop and run! She was chipper eating drinking everything! I would've noticed if she was sick. The next am I went to open outside run and she was dead on floor...sooooo strange. Still not over It and freaked out every am now that another one will be next
