Sad news: my poor girl didn't make it

I'm so sorry:hugs

Most likely she has some type of internal laying/reproductive disorder.  This can cause the going off feed, difficulty walking and trouble breathing.

Does her abdomen have any swelling or bloat?

No signs of swelling or bloating and she laid an egg yesterday but not today. Her cloaca is clean and does look pale or swollen and her poop has appeared to be normal (not runny or bloody). This just came on so suddenly. One day she was fine and cheerful the next morning she couldn't move. All my other hens are fine.

It has been a lot of work looking after my sick girl and it didn't look good there for a day or two but things are looking better today. I've had her on Poly Vi Sol and pedialyte, we've had to force feed her soft foods such as oatmeal, canned pumpkin, yogurt and softened pellets since she stopped eating on her own and we've been giving her water by syringe. Yesterday we started her on VetRx and today she appears more alert and is trying to sit rather than just lay on her side. Her head no longer droops when I hold her up and she's not gasping for air as much either. Of course she's not out of the woods yet but she seems to be on the road to recovery. Since she is one of my unnamed ISA triplets I've decided that if she pulls through I'm going to name her Miracle (I've put a band on her leg so I can tell her apart from the other two).

Glad to hear she is still hanging in there. Hopefully with your TLC she will recover.

Thanks for the update. Please do keep us posted.

Happy New Year everyone! Just wanted to let you all know that my girl was a little more spirited today. She still isn't walking, eating or drinking on her own but she is more alert and when I stand her up she tries to walk and I can feel her pushing up with her legs and a least trying to stand/move. Each day she is showing little signs of improvement. Thank you all for your wonderful help, I'm learning so much here.

Happy New Year Cosmic!

I'm glad you are seeing slight improvement. Your care and dedication is admirable.

Thank you for the update.

Well I have some very sad news. My poor little girl didn't make it. She had been going back and forth between getting better one day and then having a seizure and back to sick the next for the past couple of days. This morning she was alert and active and showed great signs of improvement but she appears to have suffered a seizure that I was not present for and passed away. It's heartbreaking because I really thought she was getting stronger and on her way to making a full recovery.

So sorry for your loss.

Thank you, we tried very hard to help her get better and had great hope that she would. It was a terrible tragedy to go check on her and find her like that when she had been so lively just two hours earlier.

I'm so sorry
