I candled last night and thought I saw movement, I guess not. I checked this morning and I just knew something wasn't right. I opened it up carefully and the poor little babe was dead.

After a period of time the hens will leave the nest with the hatched chicks. They won't sit continually. They break their brood. Also a hen has the ability to know when and egg won't hatch and she won't continue to sit on it either. Likely she knew that chick was dead in the shell and did what mother nature intended - she moved on with the chicks that needed tending.
looks like a day 16-17. So i guess momma hen knew better.
the color is beautiful though. Dont beat yourself up it was dead before you even got a hand on it.
