Saddle feathers?

Okay. He are my two cockerals hatched sometime in March. Can you see just where their backs meet their tails? Long, pointy feathers? Those are the saddle feathers. I hope that helps.

The way that the neck feathers ("hackles") look may vary by breed. In some breeds, females may have pointed feathers at the neck, too. If you have specific breeds, you might want to look on the feathersite website. They have tons of pics by breed.

Thanx

I'm feeling so much better about my 'girls' now. We have 6, two of each...BR, RIR BO. I knew for sure my BOs were gals, but the other were making me nervous. They were sold to us as pullets, but you never no for sure coming from a feed mill.

so just to clarify, if they have long pointed saddle feathers they are a Rooster no matter what breed, correct?

He's some kind of EE. I don't know what kind exactly. But he's a good boy. Very friendly. (For now)
