The saddle needs to fit you, your horse and your discipline...a cutting saddle won't do for roping. Have someone help you with fit, and then only buy a saddle that can be returned if it doesn't fit either you or the horse correctly. Personally, I'd rather have a used handmade saddle, than a new factory built, but then I hate to break in new saddles! Try ranchads.com, as a learning site. We put lots of miles on thoroughbreds in western tack, and because of their withers I think that a contour pad is a must, well actually I think that for all horses.
