I have had a male button quail alone for years because I was unable to find a mate for him. I recently got a female and Bobo promptly scalped her and she has no feathers on her back. It's not too bad; the top of her head has a scab but it seems to be healing and I think some down is growing back in on her back. She's eating and drinking well, so I'm not too worried about her. Bobo is now in a wire enclosure inside of the wood and plexiglass cage so he cannot hurt her.
So I was thinking that maybe I could make a tiny version of a chicken saddle so it doesn't happen again
But I don't know if she would react well to it seeing as buttons are super skittish and paranoid.
So, do you think a saddle would freak out a button quail? Would it impair her movement? Button quail, or at least my button quail, are really active and run around the cage all day. Not even foraging or anything, just pacing...
