If you've already called to let someone know that they are there and no one's shown up, I'd call the local news media folks whom are already crowded around the beach areas and let them know. I'd have a plan of action to search and rescue them myself if no one else would, and let the media, (ah hem) get wind of the rescue. Maybe I'd make another phone call and suggest that I was hoping someone was on their way to rescue them since the media was booking out there, and what a great image that would be on all the news channels, youtube, all our hard earned tax dollars at work...

While I agree about Mother Nature, humans are part of the cycle as well.

Honestly, endangered, threatened, or just cute... I would not want my loved ones going out in 12 foot seas putting their own life at risk to "save" the animals. If the seas calm and the risk to the rescuers lives is not that great, it would be awesome to help them out.

It was covered by our local news. They even showed a whole egg laying on the beach. Irene is long gone now so can bet someone "official" has most likely done what they could for them.

Hoping those in the Mid Atlantic and North East are prepared and make ot through without major damage. Glad it will be just a Cat 1 by the time it gets near the NYC/NJ area. Those are like a severe thunderstorm.

They showed tonight there are people collecting the "wash backs" which are the turtle hatchlings who made it out to sea and are now washing ashore in seaweed thanks to the storm. So hopefully they can save many of them.
