Hi. Purchased a cheap coop from Precision Pets at my local Agway.
It has a coop and outside run. My chicks are feathered well I think. They like to fall asleep on the grass but I move them to the coop as I am trying to figure out where they should sleep. Over 65 at night now in new york. Where should the sleep? In the coop or in the cage area?

How secure is the run area - what materiel is it made of, etc? Do you close the door at night when you move them into the coop? What are your primary predator concerns for your location?

They are 7 weeks old. Got them for easter.

I live on long island, we have raccoons and possums and some fox in our area. did I mention raccoons lots of them. I let mine sleep in the run, they don't much like to sleep in the coop even this past winter with the cold and the wind. but I built the coop and run on top of wire, so no-one can dig their way in. the run is 2x4 galvanized wire with 1/2x 1" galv wire on the bottom 3 feet so no-one can reach in and grab anyone. the six foot fence is fine for keeping dogs out of the yard but that's about it. I don't think screen is going to keep any predators out. they'll just shred it and you'll have a chicken massacre on you hands. remember they have all night to scratch and chew and claw there way in, so try and make it as tough as possible. good luck
