Hello! I need to worm my birds (I can see long skinny ones in droppings).
I bought safeguard goat wormer 10% and I know the dosage is .23ml/pound administered orally. My question is one- can I put the correct dosage on a piece of bread and have the bird eat it instead of trying to get the liquid in their beaks?
Second question- for how long do I treat them? I’ve read all different things including 5 days in a row, 3 days in a row, or once and then repeat 10 days later.
Also- is two weeks the correct egg withdrawal?

Thanks! I wish there wasn’t so much conflicting information!

Some people like to throw away eggs for longer...I use barber dewormer..which is not very popular on here...but, I wanted to try it first, and then do another fecal float. At this point everyone is great. I’m not trying to persuade you, I’m just putting info out there, that herbals have been working for me for four months now. I know that not long...but that’s when I got those chickens.

Interesting! Is there an egg withdrawal from this? I’m always interested in natural remedies.

You can try putting it on bread, however, with chickens it's not always easy to get them to eat individually. It's not hard to dose them individually, and it's the best way. Open their mouth, and put the dosage syringe on the chicken's left side, when facing them, just like shown. Tilt their head upward a little, then gently, and steadily squirt some in their mouth, then remove the dosage syringe, so they can swallow. Repeat until the whole dose is given (usually twice, half each time). DO NOT GET ANY IN THE CENTER HOLE. That's their air passage, not their throat. You are describing roundworms, so I would do the initial dose, then do a follow up dose again in 10 days.

The reason there is so much conflicting info is that different worms need different treatments. For example, it your bird has capillary worms, it needs the five day treatment, but if it has just large roundworms, then the one day treatment should work.

If you don't want to toss eggs for two weeks you could do this:
Safeguard Mash - Zero Day Egg Withdrawal
Safeguard, when used as described in that thread has a zero day withdrawal.

I really like that site, but *all* of the Safeguard (fenbendazole) dosing info on that page is wrong. Please, everyone, do not follow those instructions!
I came to this page cause I bought the 10% safeguard 100mg/ml for goat, to treat my chicken. all the info I got here is 0.23ml /lb for chicken, however, in the label, for goat, it is only using 0.23ml /10 lb! is there anything missing for me? thank you

The dose for chickens is much more than dose for goats.
