Safeguard pellets how much to give

I wasn't quite sure if it was the right amount but that's what the feed store guy said.

When I get the liquid tomorrow can I give them a full dosage then? Or should I wait 10 days and give them the liquid then?

I have given .5ml per 2.2 pounds (50mg/kg) 5 days in a row, so no need to wait, go ahead and give it. Remember that the dose on the bottle and tubes is for goats, cattle and horses (5mg/kg - .05ml per 2.2 pounds), poultry get more.

This is for your hen that's lost a bunch of weight, but still eats a lot?

Since you have found a good way to get it in them. I would use the pellets, after finding out the correct dosage. I use the liquid in conjunction with ivermectin and so far have had good luck with it, but once you get the dosage down, the only difference between the liquid, paste, and pellets is the method of delivery. Use whatever is easiest for you. I try to at least once a year to have a stool sample done to ensure that whatever I'm using is still working, since I usually only have 1 or 2 birds checked, if I have one that doesn't seem to be doing well, it would be one of the ones I had checked.

Major error on my part! The Safeguard pellets are actually .05% Fenbendazole, not 5%! So sorry, wasn't wearing my glasses!

One pound of the pellets will treat 1000 one pound chickens at 5mg/kg, 500 at 10mg/kg, 250 at 20mg/kg or 125 at 40mg/kg or 100 at 50mg/kg. Let me know if I made an error, lol.

Casportpony: Yes I've had a hen that hasn't been doing well, thought it was a "waterbelly" since it felt a little squishy, and she had been standing around like a penguin.
I have a few other posts here about her

I see you posted in this one:

and

I have noticed recently that even though she is eating a lot of food she was getting thinner. So I wormed her with this Safeguard pellets to see if it could be worms that was causing all her problems.

Her belly doesn't feel too much like fluid built up, I only got 15 ml of a yellowish clear fluid from her.

But she seems to be walking a bit better and more active so I don't know what is going on with her, no vet up here treats chickens.

Well I got the last bottle of liquid Safeguard

. They took back the pellets no problem.

So do I give her some now .5cc per 2.2lbs? So that would be about 2cc for her since she is 10 pounds? She still eats a lot

The amount my vets have told me to use is 50mg/kg (.5ml per 2.2 pounds) once, but if you want to treat for capillary worms you'll need to dose her several days in a row at a lower dose. If she weighs 10 pounds, that's 4.5kg, so the dose would be 2.25ml (4.5kg X .5ml = 2.25ml). For a 5 day dose I would probably do 20mg/kg (.2ml per 2.2 pounds) which is .9ml (4.5kg X .2ml = .9ml).

So, .9ml for 5 days? Would I repeat that in 10 days too or would this be just for the 5 days and that's it?

Thank you for your help Kathy
