Hi Folks,

We have a chicken who is laying a couple soft eggs lately. They're breaking in the nesting box, presumably when another chicken enters the box to lay, and the adjacent eggs still in the box are getting some goo on them. Unfortunately we can't collect them any earlier.

We aren't worried about the chicken as she is on the mend, but are the uncracked eggs - the ones that rolled in the broken egg - safe to eat? I kinda assume they are since they aren't broken but didn't want to take a chance, especially when we give eggs to friends and neighbors.

Thanks

Yeah if they aren’t broken they are safe to eat. You can just wash off the yolk. If you want the eggs to stop breaking so easily you could give your hens more calcium like oyster or egg shells to increase the strength of the shell.

Wash thoroughly, then refrigerate.
