SAHM tips....Money saving tips??

Oh also does anyone have a good remedy or a recipe for a salve for excema. I unfortunately have it and have passed it down to my daughter. She has a spot on her foot and it looks so horrible and I know from experience that is must hurt. I hate to take her to the doctor because the creams they give you have steroids in them.

Im a SAHM (though weekend waitress for a bit extra) i hang clothes to dry have a garden and freeze/can my leftovers. We use a woodburner for heat mostly. I cook all meals from scratch and dinnet leftovers make great lunches. My dh packs a lunch for work. I do most home repairs to save on hiring people (learned how to replace a shower lol) coupons or i hit aldis a cheap food store around here. Bulk only works if you have storage room. I buy most clothes at goodwill and never turn downloading handme downs. And save all you can in the meantime. We switch tv companies soon as contracts are up for the better deal. I even made alot of our xmas pres and figured out the max we can spend on all holiday presents. I try to keep my running down and will hand build big play items (playhouse monkey bars new swing set) cuts down cost without making the kids give much. Ive done this for years and have 3 more to go before school really starts. Ive even started my own credit pay down plan we can afford and should remove all debt in a few yrs. Check ins i save over 1000 a year by switching. And ebay is a great way to sell stuff

I bought my washing soda at Walmart, but I've also seen it at our small mom and pop grocery store as well as a small locally owned hardware (more like a some of everything) store, so hopefully you can find it somewhere. The one I have is by Arm and Hammer and says Super Washing Soda on it then detergent booster and household cleaner. It comes in a tall, yellow box. I know some people do use regular soap bars and I've seen some that specifically use the 'free' type of bars - no perfumes or dyes (like pure and natural, I think it's called?). Having said that, my oldest son has sensitive skin and breaks out from regular detergents (I had to use the free and clear kind when I used them) and so far he hasn't had any reactions to this soap using the laundry soaps (which do have a scent) and I'm pleasantly surprised by that as I've been doing it for several months now. I'd say just buy a bar of scent/dye free soap and use that if you want to be extra careful.

I'd try some Nu-Stock....great stuff for any kind of skin related affliction!

Thank you! Is this something I can get at the drug store or like Vitamin Cottage?

WOW! Congrats!! It will be a big adjustment; but you know what? work will always be work and work will always BE....

your children will always be your children, but they wont be your small children to where you can have a positive
influence on them forever...

what a great choice for you!

Cackey -- Happy for you! I know its a little scary to think about, but you will really enjoy staying at home. If your paycheck was mainly going to gas and daycare, you might not miss the money!

Here's more money saving tips:
1.Compare your car and home insurance rates at least every two years. Maybe more often if your premium runs every six months. Ours is a year. The insurance companies get you in the door for the first year and then the rates rise. I have two companies that I've dealt with and I switch back and forth. And they know I do this -- they hate to see you go, but are happy when you come back. They know that I will be leaving if my rates jump. Our life insurance I leave alone because that premium is based on age when I first purchased it and would rise if I switched because I am older now.

2. Use up leftovers!

Make pizza using leftovers, like someone mentioned. I've made delicious pizzas this way. I had leftover grilled steak so I made a philly steak pizza with sauteed onions, sweet peppers and garlic. Leftover roast would work, too. Sautee the onions and sweet peppers add the minced garlic and thinly sliced steak at the end. Warm through. I've had leftover chicken and made a bbq chicken and bacon pizza (had sliced onion, too). My sauce for this philly steak pizza or my bbq chicken is 2/3 cup mayo, garlic (fresh cloves, powder, or granulated works) to taste (we love garlic so it's a couple clove, minced), a tsp of onion powder and a smidge of dry oregano and basil. Mix and spread over dough. Layer on toppings and cheese. This would more than do a large size pizza.

Another good use for leftover steak and chicken is to make quesadillas.

Dress up leftover mashed potatoes with bacon and sauteed garlic and onion (mix together) then sprinkle with cheese and bake until warmed and the cheese is melted. Bake at 350 degrees.

Got leftover hot dog buns, but not enough to feed everyone a whole bun again? Make individual servings of garlic bread. Just make a mixture of softened butter, garlic cloves, parmesan cheese, and a tiny pinch of salt. I taste a smidgen to be sure that it doesn't need more garlic. Pull the buns apart and spread the butter mixture on the inside of each half of bun. Place under broiler or on grill, buttered side facing the heat source. Watch carefully -- they brown quickly! Flip over and, if desired, lightly butter the outside or just leave unbuttered. Place under broiler again until done brown and toasted. The outside takes even less time to brown/toast.

You'd be more likely to find it in your local feed store or Tractor Supply store but you can order it easily online. It is usually used for animals but contains no ingredients that would be harmful to humans and I've found it to have remarkable results for skin lesions of many kinds. It is amazing for wound healing, even deep and nasty wounds you wouldn't expect to do well. Go on their website and read the testimonials...the before and after pics from customers are amazing! The ingredients are sulfur, pine tar and mineral oil. It smells bad and is kind of weird in texture but I've seen dramatic differences overnight in long term wounds/sores. Great for hot spots on dogs and horses...which are usually just eczema.

if you go to the bread stores; MOST of them have the "feed" bread; which you have to sign a waiver saying you wont feed it to humans lol..

but ours puts holes in the bags when they pull them off of their NON-EXPIRED rack...$1 a big bag..so we just come home and duct tape the hole...

there is absolutely NOTHINGI wrong w/the bread..no mold nothing..

now granted; you may get a bag full of hoagie rolls..ok; freeze those puppies!

sometimes we get nothing but a bag of hot dog buns like 10 of them lol but for $1 who cares??

Sometimes you get snack cakes too...just depends on what they have on their "feed bread" rack in the back...

**NOW I AM NOT SAYING to bring it home and feed it to your family; just a heads up...do what you will ***
