Ordered Saipans again. Hopefully they have a good hatch this time. I ordered 6, & they're coming in, in June.

That's quite a few.Never mind, it doesn’t matter. I just ordered 10. This will be my first time ordering from a large hatchery. We’ll see how it goes.
I’d order 20 if they let me just to increase the odds that some will make it to adulthood. My understanding is that Cackle’s strain is known to be fragile through the chick stage. That's quite a few.
That's good to know. Hopefully our chicks make it just fine.I’d order 20 if they let me just to increase the odds that some will make it to adulthood. My understanding is that Cackle’s strain is known to be fragile through the chick stage.
Historically, “real” Saipans were confirmed meat eaters, having adapted to island life by scavenging dead sea life. BW Saylor thought they were a relic population of original oriental gamefowl or junglefowl from which oriental gamefowl came. I recently heard an alternate theory that the Saipans were a genetic amalgamation of most of the various oriental gamefowl varieties that had been thrown onto the island or Saipan piecemeal over hundreds of years as various Asian cultures came to the island and brought their own gamefowl with them. The significance being that each oriental gamefowl breed represents a genetic piece of a puzzle than when put together, recreates the original oriental gamefowl as a sum of the various parts.Bullfrog, if you don't mind be asking. Why are you interested in the Saipans?
