If the o.p. started this thread b/c of arriving at this site and doing some browsing and not seeing threads about Joel Salatin, then I would betcha it is because those threads (of which there are a lot) are nearly all over in the Meat Birds Etc section of the forum.

For whatever reason, even though this section here is titled Coop And Run Design Construction Maintenance, in real life it is mostly 'just' used by people with pet or layer-flock chickens.... the meat-bird people, who are about 96% of the audience for Salatin's methods, post their tractor pics/threads/questions over in Meat Birds Etc.

But the quote you are using is not Jefferson's. I have no idea if the paraphrase is accurate.

The above link is a person's hand drawn "plans" for a Salatin styled pen. It looks like between this PDF and Salatin's book Pastured Poultry Profit$, someone who can cut lumber with a skil saw should be able to create a Salatin styled pen.
