Sale for hardware cloth? Good price or not?

I paid $260 for 60" x 100' roll from wireclothman. By the time I would add up the smaller rolls this made more sense but it is pricey. I think shipping was $60

Right here in my tiny home town (and I mean tiny!) ... I telephoned after seeing your post and the price is $124.00/roll, they can have it to me in 2-3 days. So I did make a $10 error in my original post...
Still not bad at all!! Will have to give them a call! I think I have a 10% off card around here too that got mailed to me!

YAHOO! Thanks a bunch! I just ordered that too. I've been looking all day and it was going to cost over $100 more than this :)

I just visited home depot yesterday to see the prices too. I know the stores are usually insanely expensive for this kind of thing.. My budget is $100/month for gardening so I'm hoping to nail down the best savings...

While googling I came across posts that said hardware cloth is not recommended because it comes apart due to the galvanized coating not being strong. It would be cheaper for me to use welded wire fencing with chicken wire on the inside..but would it be safe...
I have used hardware cloth on tons of projects that have been outside for years. Rain barrels etc. I have never had any trouble with hardware cloth coming apart. Maybe I'm just lucky so far?

Thanks everyone! In the end the hardware cloth was just too far out of my budget. I have a lot of important home improvement on a fixed income. We found something that we hope will work. It is welded wire fencing. $20 per roll, each roll is 39"x150 feet, so we bought two rolls and will double up on fencing if need be. The coop won't be started until next month when I can buy the lumber and other hardware but this seemed to be a decent middle-ground between chicken wire and hardware cloth. The gaps are 1"x1", bit larger than I would have liked but small enough that nothing should be getting into them other than small snakes, but I will be enclosing the lower 12" with solid boards. The wire is not from a store it was from a local guy.
