A bit of rain this morning. Yay. We're still way below normal, but according to the weather people at Channel 8, the pattern is shifting, so we are likely to get rain more often.

I counted 7 plants in the heavy soil garden that have tomatoes on them. Three had golf ball sized, one had the one I posted the picture of, and three had pea sized. I forgot to look at the plants in the sandy soil garden, but I do recall a cherry tom plant that had a stem of tomatoes starting to get some size.

A neighbor gave us 5 pounds of cream cheese. O. M. G. I am going to make a cheesecake. I've never made one before, and I'll have to find a good recipe that's gluten free. DH will have a bite or two. I could eat the rest myself. But not in one sitting. I can't make it until after my physical, which is only a week away.

I also need some recipes that will use up some of this stuff. DH will make queso. A friend recommended I make home made ice cream, and gave me a no-churn recipe. It doesn't call for cream cheese, but what's a little bit more fat content when you're making ice cream?

The air was clear enough to work outside. I pulled (2) five gallon buckets of weeds for the chickens. I gave the chicks some little bits too. It's time for them to learn about eating their greens.

Carly Simon turned 80 on June 25. She had so many great hits! Including the ketchup commercial song. :lau (If you don't know what I'm talking about, they used "Anticipation" for a Heinz ketchup ad.)

"Coming Around Again" is one of my favorites.

My dad would have been 97 on June 25th. That kind of blows my mind...

No, what really blows my mind is that I've lived 3 years longer than my dad did. And over a year longer than my mom.

Yes, it's a strange feeling knowing you have out lived your folks.

Very! Especially because at 61, I don't think of myself as old. I didn't think of them as old at 58 (dad) and 60 (mom). Both had serious health issues just before they passed. Stroke for dad, and Wegener's disease (now known as "Granulomatosis with polyangiitis") for mom.

I really hope I have the genes that my mom's brother had. He died at 96, lived on his own, and was sharp as a tack. Physically slow, but all the marbles were still in the right order. He was telling me stories about my grandparents the last time I talked to him.

I really wish I'd gone to visit him, but Covid came around, and put the kibosh on that. I wanted to talk to him about King Lear, which was "hands down" his favorite Shakespeare play.

I asked him, "Do you believe in God?" He answered, "Of course not!" in the same tone of voice as if I'd asked him if he believed in Santa Claus. I really wanted to ask him about his beliefs, how he came to them. Was it something he saw in WWII or Korea (he was in the Air Force), or something he read? Something else?

When I ask someone about their beliefs, I am NOT trying to convince them to believe anything. I am truly curious as to what they believe, and how they came to believe that.

Warm, HUUUUUMID, and raining at times. I was pruning the tomato plants when it started to rain. I'm not so sweet I'll melt, nor will I rust. But then I heard thunder, and there are (24) 8' tall steel posts around the garden, so I took that as a sign I should back to the house.

I'll fess up: I was drenched with sweat, and that was my excuse.

Hubby sure is making a racket, working on his darkroom. Maybe I'll go sit with the chickens.

. I started out wearing a mask because of the smoke, but took it off after an hour. It's still smoky/hazy out there, and now the house smells a bit like smoke.
This is what a smoke/organic vapor mask cartridge looks like;

For inside the house you can get activated carbon furnace filters and electrostatic partical filters too!

I run a stack starting with a standard particle filter, followed by carbon filter, with the electrostatic in the third position. Set your thermostat fan control on 'recirculation' and close the damper on the furnace intake so it's not pulling outside air.
