Sally's GF3 thread

Buckwheat! I hadn't thought about that.

I planted buckwheat in some of my garden beds after I'd harvested the onions or garlic in them. It has a lot to recommend itself:

Honey bees love it.
Planting the seed to bloom in ... 6 weeks? Maybe less.
Crowded out weeds.
Cut it down, let it return to the soil.
Frost kills it, so you don't need to worry about the plants overwintering and being a problem like, ahem, alfalfa.

It does not fix nitrogen. I'll see how many seeds sprout from last season.

Did I mention that it blooms quickly and the honey bees love it? I'll be planting it again this year in garden areas that need some filling in.
A friend of mine does bees. She and her dh did not care for the taste of buckwheat honey, shared a bottle with me. I LOVE IT. It has a earthier, not exactly musky, but stronger taste. She gave me several bottles since I loved it so.

Sally, here is a GF dish you may enjoy. Made this yesterday, and since its not baking, I don't have a designated thread for such.
Pinto beams soaked overnight.
Cooked for 2 hours in chili seasoned water.
Thickened with instant potato flakes.

Served with my dinner plate.

Actually EVERYTHING on that plate is GF.
I have been making the beans, cooked in Chili seasonings for some time now. I usually mash them and have refried beans to use for my Taco base, or Bean burritos.
Then wife tells me. Just leave as they are. You still have teeth:gig.:lau'
So this is my new way to have them.:drool:drool:drool
