Hello, It has been a long wait here in Southern California. But we are finally free from the Newcastle quarantine. I had a large order of chicks that were mailed off the very next day. I am lucky that I had that order in the works because it is hard to get chicks right now especially this beautiful breed of birds.
So out of the 19 chicks I received I had 2 SF and a my surprise chick is another SF but is straight run. I think it is a Roo and I know that I should wait longer but I think it is showing signs. It would be okay if it is and it's name would stay Ginger :)
These pics are from 2 weeks, 3 weeks and almost 4 weeks old. I am seeing dark feathers coming out on the legs and back... The other 2 are getting golden feather on their backs. It would be nice to have 3 pullets but I can deal if it is a roo. This is the first time I have had this breed of chicken. Any advise would be welcomed, Thanks :)

Can you try to get more pictures in natural light, without the red? I can't really see the feather colors good enough to tell for sure.
They're all adorable, I can sure see that! :love

Lighting is bad in photos, so hard to tell. Turn off red light and use natural daylight for photos. The solo bird in 3rd photo appears to be a male based on comb more than anything.

My apologies. I will take more pics today. Also, more feathers are out. But thanks for your input. I have not had this breed before.

I think all three are cockerels. SF males have the black feathers, pullets don't.
I'd love to be wrong though!
Mary

The other two have a lot more buff feathering. They are still young. I know it's early. It's just the largest one is mostly black feathers that are coming in. I hope these pics are better. I just took them today.
