I am going to be getting some new chicks mostly EE's but was going to throw in a few different breeds in my order to try out. I've read a few different things on Salmon Faverolles, mostly good as far as temperament which is what I am looking for most in my small backyard flock. I was wondering if anyone else has one of these guys in with a mixed flock. I read they got picked on easily and if when they got older they could hold their own. Maybe not be at the top of the pecking order but at least don't get killed off. I was only going to order one Faverolle...along with one speckled sussex, one Welsummer, and 5 EE's.
I would love to know if anyone has has success with one in a mixed flock! Thanks!

I have 5-6 in my mixed flock and they are fine. I also have EEs, Welsumner, Brahmas, and Cochins.

I have three in my baby flock (12 weeks old). They are very shy and pretty much keep to themselves while the others (EEs, SS, turkens, silkies) all stay together as a flock. I would order at least two if I were you. That way if you end up with a socially shy one, it will have company.

Mine are getting there. It's been harder for me to pay individual attention to my babies, since I have so many of them. At roost time the SFs have learned to enjoy being petted, but they don't (yet) like to be picked up, at all.

I recently integrated a faverolle into my small flock. She will no doubt be at the bottom of the pecking order, but she has a light sussex buddy whom I bought at the same time, so I don't feel too badly for her. I only have one girl that picks on her much, and she may be going to bully jail for a few days, as she picks on everyone

To show you how mild they are, she is about 17 weeks old, and the sussex buddy is about 13 weeks old. The sussex is the dominant one of the pairing, even though she's a month younger. Peaches (faverolle) is very calm while being held, but is just getting use to me picking her up (only had them a month, so didn't get to handle them as chicks).
While I think it would be best to get two of them, I think she'll do fine raised w/the others from chickhood, especially w/EEs around.

Oh I don't need a lap chicken. lol. I'm just annoyed with my Wyandottes not having any personality. My golden comet and partridge rock are sweethearts. So I'm trying to replace some members of my flock with breeds that have a better disposition.
I think I will get at least 2 faverolles. If they are as nice as your birds I'd love to have them around.

I agree gritsar, I'd get at least 2, then they could hang together.
In my mixed flock the 4 SF do tend to stay together. This is my first year with them and I sure do like 'em. Very sweet girls who do tend to be a bit shy, compared to the NHReds, Barred Rocks and Austrolorps. If things in the coop are quite and I stand still for a bit they will often come and stand at my feet or on my shoes. I love those fuzzy little faces.

As I said, in my baby flock I have turkens, speckled sussex, the salmon faverolles, silkies, and easter eggers, as well as a bunch of cornish Xs (that were rescues).
My adult flock is all LF brahmas. Personality-wise, the only ones that come close to the wonderful personality of my brahmas is the turkens (naked necks). I've even learned to appreciate their unique "beauty" and their personalities make them all the more beautiful to me.
The cornish crosses also have wonderful personalities, but they're not meant to be layers.

lol I saw some cornish at the fair. They look like old men who have acromegaly. The turkens are kinda cool...

Thank you for everyones input on the faverolles!
