Salmonella and yong child

I was told i shouldnt have chickens until my children are 5 years old because of salmonella is this true?thx

you shouldn't let you child lick chicken poop because of salmonella.

Having kids and chickens or any animal together is a great learning experience. The younger the better.

One thing to teach is proper hygiene, and washing hands, keep hands out of mouth etc.

If you are practical with your interactions, having your kids learn about caring for living creatures and respecting those creatures is an amazing life lesson.

I am a newbie so I can't offer any advice yet - except to say there have been and still are tons of farm families who have raised kids and chickens together - so I imagine that with regular common sense hygiene your kids would be fine
