Salmonella

more than likely they are just calling to interview. If you say that she had contact with poultry at home or at a swap meet they are going to assume thats what caused it. When I got interviewed by the health department they wanted to know every single place we had food from for the past week and any zoos.

I'm SO sorry that your daughter AND YOU had to go through that! It is heartbreaking when they are sick. I'm glad she is starting to feel better. I hope she is back to normal soon.

As for the call, I'm sure they are just calling to try to find out where she might have picked it up from. With stuff like that they try to keep track of it in case there is an outbreak so they can alert the public. At least that is what they do here. If anyone has a confirmed case like that (what your daughter has, salmonella, listeria, etc) the doctor has to report to the CDC and then they call to find out where you got it from, if you know. Don't worry, you aren't in trouble.

I just got out of the hospital with these exact symptoms. I had a confirmed case of salmonella poisoning. The danger for me and possibly your son is that the diarrhea will deplete your electrolytes and potassium levels to a dangerous point. Not having enough potassium caused the doctors to admit me to the cardiac ward because a lack of potassium can cause your muscles to fail, including your heart. I strongly advise you to take your son to the doctor as soon as possible. From experience I know just how horrible he feels. And he can infect others in the house as long as he has diarrhea. I'll pray for his recovery.

To the person who posted and revived the post. Start packing in the probiotics. My daughter had this issue a year ago and probiotics took care of it totally. By the time they got around to calling with results and such she was better, got retested and we were clear. Never even had to take the meds they called to put her on. I insisted they retest since all her symptoms were gone already. Anywho we just flushed her system with probiotics and she was much better the next day and by 3 days after you would never have known she was sick at all. Really thats a good place to start whenever you have tummy issues. Everything on this farm get them. Horses, cows, goats, chickens, parrots, dogs, cats, children, parents and grandparents. Good stuff.
