Same hen or do I have 2 laying?

We got our first egg day before yesterday and now 2nd egg today. But I cant tell if I have 1 hen or 2 laying. I guess the day I get more than 1 egg I will know for sure but I'm just so curious! The first egg is on the LEFT - the larger one and the 2nd egg is on the RIGHT, the smaller one... Seems backwards so that's why I'm thinking 2 different hens??? I have 3 that are same age, so just starting to lay. What do you think?

Hard to say, at first the egg size can really go whacky untill they get the hang of it. It could be 2 different pullets tho you almost gotta catch them in the act untill you get more than 1 in a day. Congrats on the eggs!!!!

I'm thinking same hen--the size can go up and down a lot in the beginning like whirlwind says. Do you ever catch them on the nestbox, or making the "I laid one" cackle?

My guess is that it is the same pullet who laid the egg. However, it is not impossible for it to have been another pullet who also started laying. In my experience(not that it is all That vast) there could be weeks of difference in between starting dates even if they are the same age. Just watch the chickens and see if there is more than one going in and out of the nest box. Did you find it in the same location as the first one? Do you have more than one nest box?

I found the eggs in differnt nest boxes - there are 3. The 1 girl that I know layed the 1st one has followed me in there when I clean up in the morning and talks very loudly at me..... But then leaves, and so do I. But you can bet I've been going out there every few hours since the first egg!

I'd guess it's different hens. I'm not an expert, but my first two have started laying and neither of them layed back to back eggs, nor have their eggs changed much since they started (just a few weeks ago).

Just got my 3rd egg and I know it was the same girl that layed the first one, saw (and heard) her in there.... SO if she is the one that layed all 3 then she has layed 3 eggs in 4 days - right out of the starting gate! OR she layed the 1st and 3rd and someone else layed yesterdays egg.... I DONT KNOW!!!

That seems like alot from 1 chicken just starting out. Who knows tho. Good going on your 3rd egg.
