Same neighbor different dog!

Some of my chickens killed by a neighbor who is a mile and a half awY ive cought them twice called the cops they gave the dogs back and he got fines paid rhem but i got nothing ive been dealing with trying to prove there price asking on a maran sight for people to post prices of what a 5,6,7 and some 8 maRans colored egg layers that are 22-32 weeks old are worth than they said they would ban me for spam mail i just am at the point of giving up my eggs won grand champion and reserve champion 6 years in a row at rock county and all i get is battered down every time i turn around, i origanaly got into the marans because my brother fought cancer for 5 years than he died i needed something to distract me from my depression of loosing him bit this has just been too much having these dogs kill my babys 6 times and i cant find anyone who sells winning pullets of that age to send me prices to put with my lawsuit i cant take it any more ive been trying since november he says he would only give me 15 each that isnt squat ive had it i feel shot down and worthless im Just a housewife and what little i get from eggs i spend on grosherys feed is so expensive .....but i love to see them in my yard in summer in there groups waundering about small clames will cost more than he will pay but he needs to be tought a lesson....what to do????

15 dollars certainly isn't enough, I was on a hatchery website a couple days ago and they were charging 12-18 dollars a piece for maran chicks, cuckoo marans were much cheaper but the rest of the breeds were 12 or 18. So if you raised them you can add feed cost to 18 I would say, if they were a special bird for winning prizes then I would ad substantially more on for that too. It is too bad that you can't find the info somewhere, there has to be a breeder who could provide a decent pricing for you. And I would kill the dogs if they come back, you are well within your right to do so if they are attacking your livestock.

Did you post your question on a good Marans thread as suggested? That is the ONLY way you may get an answer on this site. Going to the people who specifically raise THAT breed would be best. If your yard is not completely fenced in, I would NOT free range AT ALL! If your chickens have been killed 6 times, there is a problem. The chickens need to protected with fencing etc. to keep them safe. I also agree with shooting the dogs. Once they have killed once, they will be back everytime!

My neighbor's have chickens and a husky. They have only lost 1 bird from a hawk and as a result try to shoot any hawk any chance they get. BUT, their husky has killed 7 of their chickens and just yell at her! I think they should just either be more responsible controling their dog and/or reinforcing their run.
