Dog Xpen? Cover top with netting. Maybe next spring if this is their first breeding season he’ll accept her. Any thoughts on rehoming?i know it’s very hard for some of us to do this it is for me. But sometimes it’s the best solution all round.

Our last option is definitely rehoming. We will just have to see.

Just trying to wrap my head around the fact they hatch together but evidently the drake wants the one duck out of his life. You’d think he’d be in drake heaven having 2 females to mate with.

Yep, if I do decide to get a dog pen in the end what is the recommended size for a duck??

Probably not fencing as we rent the house and can’t dig into the garden and put whatever we want.

maybe you can get something like a portable dog fence. I got one for my ducklings when they were little. It was perfect for a look don't touch area. I think is was about $30 from walmart. Is it suitable for one whole mature duck for the whole day?? I know she will be getting less freedom but I still want her to have as much freedom as possible.

I think I have decided. As putting up a fence or using a dog pen will make her have less freedom and will also make my job a lot harder and because I really don’t wanna rehome her. I will keep a close eye and wait until next year mating season and hopefully by then things have calmed down a bit. If not I will have to think of getting a fence or a run of some sort.

I'ts a pretty good size and you would even use it in conjunction with an existing fence within the run they have now. Here is a picture of mine and the 4 babies were in it as a transition and a look not touch situation.

@TheMallardDuck this would be a simple way to set up an area to protect your female from injury or stress. Once mating season is over try them all together again and see how it goes?

Me too, my friends drake was quite happy had 17 hens the 18th turned out to be a drake too, and the wild mallards that were on the farm the mallard had 3 hens with him
