San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

It was 23 this morning with 45MPH winds....that would make it 5 degrees out!! It felt like it too! Horses water had 2 inches of ice on it. All outside water sources frozen. The coop was down to 30 inside, the coldest it's been yet. My little D'uccles and NN cockerel are all safely tucked in the warm garage. They don't know how good they have it!!! Wondering what the rest of the county is like?

I'm sure bunnies will be fine. I didn't mention it to them, but I'm sure as long as they are caged and there isn't tons of them around they wouldn't even notice or care amongst all the chickens.

Lemon Boy is gorgeous and as mentioned at the last meeting, I really hope that one day I will have his off-spring with my other Cochins running in my yard......, but at the moment I have reached my limits on the # of my chickens.......

Anyways, it makes me smile that your chickens are little attackers just like my girls when it comes down to mealworms. I will be more than happy to bring some to the next meeting. There are lots of in my breeding bins, if it gets just a little warmer we will have some beautiful large chicken and duck treats at the meeting. I will send you a PM for the normal prices, any quantities available (I have provided just 100 worms to a neighborhood reptile lover and also 120 000 mealworms for a fishing tournament.....), but

I DO OFFER A 20% DISCOUNT FOR ALL BYCers ordering for our meet-up and I will deliver......at the meet-up.

How can I disappoint the gourmets in your flock?

Of course I will bring some. Like I have mentioned in my other post, I am offering a 20% discount to all BYCer at the meeting. How exciting....my girls gobbled up 2000 today........

Hi All!
Okay Everyone, Palomar Mountain at 0500 this morn was 18 degrees! Chickens are drinking nice warm water thanks to the
Amvet thrift store sale on crock posts last month! 4 or 5 bucks gets you a nice crockpot (make sure it offers a "warm"
setting, (low works but watch as it may get too hot if its on steady, BUT thanks to those Thermocubes from Cutter Supply,
the crockpots turn on at 35 - 45 degrees automatically, best $12 investment, each plug has 2 plug ins.
The Seramas on the "Poop Deck" are all nice and cozy with a reptile ceramic heat flat bulb with 150 watts in each cage
and big ole burlap coffee sacks draped on open sides, other sides protected with plexiglass or amber welding curtain.

Everyone enjoying a nice COB Treat, (Steam rolled corn, oats and barley) with their regular ration.
It is blowing like crazy out there now, hope it calms down after Thursday.
Hope to see you all at the next roundup!

Be well, Glenn

That would be a cool feature, but I don't know how to do those right now, and after my website issues tonight, my brain is fried. I don't feel like figuring out how.

But tomorrow is another day, and my glass will be refilled with patience.

Tonight's count is 12 RSVPs, but the website was down for a couple hours, so maybe there will be more tomorrow.

The website is super - just did the RSVP for the next meetup - thank you for setting this up and to tigerrrrlilly for getting the permit sorted - was there a cost associated? If so, let us know and we can all contribute.

No the permit is free so long as we are under 50 people and clean up properly. The paperwork said $100 cleaning deposit, but nobody asked me for it before or after it was approved, they just said make sure you clean up. We do a good job of that so not to worry. If they do come back wanting a deposit I'll take care of it.
