San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

I saw rice hulls at Hawthorne in Escondido yesterday. Not sure how much they are because I use coconut fibre which has also been hard to find lately.

I wondered if anyone used coconut fiber. Is it Coconut Cowboy? It seems like it would be great mulch. Is it very expensive?
Being that my chickens live on a coconut farm, I have thought about coconut fiber but rice husks are free.

at the meet-up this weekend I will have tropical jams made on my coconut/chicken farm

Mango
Pineapple
Jackfruit

I am working on a press to start producing cold pressed virgin coconut oil. Currenlty I am selling it to a copra mill but buy back some of the copra meal for my chicken and pig feed recipes

Hi all....
How was the meet-up? Did it happen? Everyone has been so quiet :)

I have free silkie roos and some very nice Serama roos to sell for my kids....Anyone interested?
Sorry that you missed the meet up. Not much follow up here but there was a lot on the FB page. Silkies and Seramas were big... I think if you posted on FB they might find homes quickly... The next meet up is March 28, 2015.

I was just give a turkey hen. She's not laying yet. She was raised with chickens. My plan is to integrate her into my flock of 20 hens and a rooster.
They're a lot bigger that I remember. Hoping it goes well.

Pics??? Oh, I want a Turkey pair soooo bad. I wonder if they can free range during the day??
Mine will be free ranging once she's out of quarantine. The funny thing is that the only chickens that have taken any interest in her are my Naked Necks. They were hanging out in front of her pen inside the garage today. Wonder if they think it's their mother?

I'm hoping I won't have any trouble with her wanting to take off with the wild turkeys. Her wings are clipped right now as the previous owner lived in Mira Mesa, probably not allowed turkeys, and she was flying up on the roof. :lau
