San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Hello!! I'm brand new to this site and live in East County. I've had chickens before, but got them at 1-2 years old and had them in an 8 space laying cage. I'm looking at a much more hen friendly environment this time. I gave all my stuff away years ago and except for the 10x10 dog run that I'm considering using as a chicken run. I was thinking of just converting an old dog house into a coop within the run as I'm only looking at maybe 4 hens right now. I used to get my supplies at Moxley's (now East County Feed) but see there are a lot of other places to visit.

I'm busy with vermicomposting and have three red wiggler farms composting most of my kitchen scraps, cardboard and paper and will look into raising mealworms. My 3 vegetable gardens feed the family, neighbors and hopefully be treats for the hens.

I'll be in the market for pretty much everything I'll need so I guess I'd better be checking craigslist or get busy building!

WFF2 I am very interested in the blue and lavender Americaunas. When will you have chicks available? Where are you located? Are they sexed or straight run?

I'm looking to rehome my 3 peking ducks, one boy and two girls. Is anyone in San Diego interested/willing to take them? They are 7 months old and laying. The eggs are delicious, but I've decided duck-keeping is not for us. We took them in as a favor to a friend who got them on a whim.

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to start my first family friendly flock. My youngest is 8 years old and really wanting pets.

I'm looking for local chicks if they are available as sexed females since I'm in North Park.

I'm hoping for calm, friendly, peaceful chickens.

Buff Orpington
Lavender Orpington
Easter Egger
Ameracaunas
Frizzle
Red star

Warmly,
Bianca

I would be interested. I currently have a small flock of ducks (3 Rouen and a Runner) that spends it's days free ranging with my chickens.

Hi
I'm in Alpine but work downtown so either place is fine. The Americaunas aren't laying right now but should be starting soon. They are straight run but if you get a rooster you can return it for a credit towards another chicken.

Can't beat that deal with a stick!

Hi everyone...I just posted these on Craigslist...
I need homes for some pigeons, a male red golden pheasant ($30.) and a few Bantam EE/Ameraucana roos that are from beautiful little blue eggs. These roos would be great for someone's bantam blue egg project.... Roos and pigeons free to BYC people....
I also have two small bantam roos who were sold as Seramas but are not typey at all, but still cute.

Any interest?

Hi everyone. Anyone interested in white Muscovy Ducks? I'm probably going to order some ducklings, I want six but the minimum order is like 15, so I am going to have way too many. If anyone is interested i'll reserve you some, they are going to be $10, you can pay when they arrive. They will be sexed as well. Thanks!
