San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Anyone interested in Iris, yellow fragrant heritage re bloomers, Aloe Saponaria, one small Oleander, one small Artemismia (sage family, fragrant blue green woody herb bush).
The Iris are very old. I brought them from West Virginia and they sat in a paper bag for two years and then were planted and flourish here in the Mojave. I dug up these for the last meeting and they look a little dry but will flourish one again when dug back into the ground. I have hundreds of Iris plants in almost every color. I have been collecting for years. The Aloe also reproduce well, but right now they have suffered during the WET winter. Since they are succulents, the cold, following rain has frozen their tips, but they will recover. The have interesting red flowers. Look them up on Wiki if interested.

I also have one small red iris in a pot called Dynamite for a possible trade.

Renee, I think I read somewhere about you wanting to find someone to process your chickens. Talk to Cari (WhiteMountainsRanch). I am sure she can help you out.

I may be interested in the BCM and Barnevelders. You can PM me on what you would like for them? I take it they are straight run?

I have an EZ-Up; I'll bring it. I'm not sure how long I can stay if I have to bring my boys with me, but we'll see what happens.

CrazyHuhn - can I beg you to bring me some more mealworms? YUM! (For the chickens, not for me.)

I'm going to try to bring along my two roosters, too. Al had mentioned he could give them to his family, but I'll be happy to see them go to any happy home. Please bring a cage if you have any interest... I'm going to have to go buy one at Kahoots tomorrow to transport them. Just to refresh memories, here's Feathers and Sparky:

- but no worries, I will bring something else for all of us humans to feast on.......

Allison, Can you please remind me, who's the daddy? What breed did you have w/ the scruffy hens?

The chick took FOREVER to hatch. Just broke free about 20 minutes ago. If I was a betting women, the BO is the mom. The egg was very large and the egg that broke was alot smaller. I am guessing the RIR has the smaller egg. It is not completely dried yet but I see more Buff than I see Red. The bantam that hatched earlier keeps pecking it. Ugh.......

Drats, if I was going to be at the meet up I'd split the bag of BOSS I just ordered from Modesto with you.

Dana, Your roos are so Beautiful. I so wish I lived in Timbucktu, that way I could have roos. I am like you, I have to give up my two also. They were suppose to be pullets too.

I sold the roo to a friend of Lynnes. He is 1/2 Marans & 1/2 true Ameraucana. Should you have a pullet it will be an olive egger. He is very gentle, didn't crow hardly at all. Handle that baby a lot and you should have a very sweet bird there. Here's a pic of him:

ETA: P.S. You have him to thank for your girls looking scruffy. They were amongst his favorites. He seemed to only breed with about 6 of the 19 hens I had at the time.

Allison, Thanks for the pictures. He is Beautiful.

Okay, this chick does not look anything like him. There are not any other candidates?

I cannot shine the light to see the chick very well because the first hatched Bantam keeps pestering the LF chick. When the light shines, it wakes him up and he gets into action pecking. When I take them out of the incubator, I will inspect more.
