Allison thank you for answering my Brinsea questions. I still can not justify the expense and will try to have a better hatch from my LG one more time. I read the instructions again and will just need to be more diligent in the 21 days of incubation.

To be brutally honest, I think it is not you nor what you are putting in the LG. They seem to have a bad reputation for not holding temps steady. With temp spikes.

I do not own a Brinsea but the entry level one is priced right and when everything is said and done they are around the same as a Genesis w/ racks. Of course for that price you have to try manually to deal w/ humidity. You cannot change your mind because the humidity pump does not work w/ that model. Depending on where you live and the time of year, it could be a real issue in my mind. With mine, I can control externally and sometimes it is a real pain so I can just imagine camp pumps, syringes and Maxi Pads.

. Probably why I have not bought one yet because knowing myself I would go w/ all the bells and whistles.

I think Everyone and their mother wants Princess Leah. I was trying to steal her but I think Tammy would have known where to find her. She is such a great duck.

I went looking around Petfinders at the chickens and they had 3 near my house so I called and they said they were sent to a rescue.

The dust has settled and the scruffy hens are fitting in but they hang out together and use each other as security. It was good that they came together. Still only the BO laying a egg every other day. I think they were just shy in the beginning, they are now eating EVERYTHING. They LOVE mealworms, BOSS, they are eating boiled eggs, cottage cheese, I added Flax seeds to their diet and oyster shells.

Hi everyone! I was just out at Lake Murray and I don't know if any of you remember Tom the black muscovy duck? I don't think he's well. His chest looks caved, he's lost weight and one of his eyes had a large amount of discharge. I am not completely sure if he'll make it through the nasty weather we're going to have. But, he is active and hungry, so that might be a good sign.

Whenever I feed him, he spills so much seed. He uses his tongue to "sift" through the birdseed to find what he likes. Problem is that I want to feed the other ducks, too, so I can't let him sift through all of it. I also gave him some mealworms. Nobody was feeding the ducks today and I don't think anyone's going to be there to feed them tomorrow or Sunday, either because of the weather. So, they're going to be very hungry unless they find a lot of snails and worms washed up in the rain.

Nancy thank for your comments about incubation. My LG has very stable temperature. I think where I fail is the humidity. I attached oxygen tubing to each reservoir and thread them outside with enough length to use the 60cc syringe to refill the puddles and then at 18 days I created a very humid room with a humidifier. Humid enough yes but I did not allow for enough circulation of air because....................I did not remove either of the little red plugs and so I drowned the poor birds that did develop. How is that for STUPID. (Here I must confess that I need to "confess" my errors publicly to feel redemption.) I have a problem following instructions ! I also have ordered two hygrometers and after calibration I found that they are both way off the mark so I have trouble believing their value.

I feel that I should try one batch to see if I can pay attention to the instructions this time. That is before I splurge on a Brinsea.

Well, I am glad you have one of the rare LG's. I have read mostly about Temp spikes. I personally think it is hard enough to hatch eggs and then to complicate matters w/ extras like pumping w/ a camp pump and syringes and adding Maxi Pads is just not for me. I wish you the best.

I forgot to mention that the Modesto Milling Feed went over just fine w/ these picky chickens.

My 8 week old hoodlums are eating the Chick Starter and seem to LOVE it. The quails got out and were eating it too so I guess it is good stuff.

I still have the younger guys on the Cascade Chick Starter Mash.

I have added the Oats, Peas, and Flax to the older chickens diet w/ the Scratch. Everything appeared to be fresh and of very good quality. I am quite pleased.

I ordered Organic Wheat Berries from Azure Standard to sprout for the chickens. Thanks so much to Rockerchic for the basket idea. I tried to sprout the peas from Modesto too, we will see how that works in a few days.

I hope everyone has good feedback on the feed so we can do another order
